Brigadier General Arthur G. Austin, Jr.

Brigadier General Arthur G. Austin Jr. has been a member of the military since 1977.  Prior to his commission as an officer he served as an enlisted soldier in the military police field. In 1982 he graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and accepted his commission.  General Austin service includes progressive assignments of greater responsibility at all levels of command.  Most noteworthy as a Company Commander, Battalion Commander 210th Military Police Company, State of Michigan Family Programs Manager, and Deputy Commander 177th Military Police Brigade. 

Brigadier General Austin Jr. is currently the Deputy Commander of the 46th Military Police Command.  General Austin has deployed five times serving the nation in support of Hurricane Katrina and the Cuban Refugee Crisis, and internationally with Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  

His military schools include the Military Police Basic and Advanced Course at Fort McClellan, Alabama, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College. He also holds a master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, Detroit, Michigan and masters of science degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.

His decorations and awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star,  Iraq Campaign Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hour Glass M Device and Numeral Two, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Joint Meritorious Unit Award with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Michigan Service Medal with Gold Oak Leaf Cluster, Michigan State War on Terrorism Ribbon with M Device, Michigan Outside United States Service Ribbon with Numeral Two, and the Louisiana Emergency Service Medal.     

In recognition of the great credit his exemplary service, superior leadership, and dedication to duty has brought Michigan State University and the United States Army, Brigadier General Arthur G. Austin Jr. is inducted into the MSU Army ROTC Hall of Fame, this 14th day of December two thousand and thirteen, in the one hundred twenty-ninth year of Military Science at MSU.
