Lieutenant Colonel Michele Hoxie

Michele Louise Hoxie received her commission as a second lieutenant in the Adjutant General Corps upon receiving her bachelor of arts degree in political science from Michigan State University in 1976. She was the first female commissioned through Michigan State University’s Army ROTC program as well as the first female to be commissioned through an Army ROTC program in the State of Michigan. Her military education includes the Adjutant General Officer Basic and Advanced Courses; the Battalion S1/Adjutant Course; the Combined Arms Staff and Services School; the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course; and the Inspector General Course.

LTC Hoxie’s duty assignments include company executive officer, 525th Replacement Company, assistant chief Personnel Actions Division, executive officer Personnel Services Division, postal officer, assistant chief Administrative Services Division, 9th Infantry Division (1976-80); Adjutant/S1 Special Troops Battalion, V Corps (1980-82); chief Enlisted Management, 3d Support Command (1982-83); Administrative Officer, Readiness Group Knox; chief Administration-Supply Team, Readiness Group Knox (1984-87); Adjutant /S1, 12th Cavalry Regiment (1987-88); Inspector General, Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (1988-91); Adjutant/S1, 501st Military Intelligence Brigade (1991-93); chief Individual Training, chief Ground Forces Reserve Element Task Force, 1st U.S. Army (1993-95); G1/chief Personnel & Administration, 2d ROTC Region (1995-97).

Her awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon second award.

In recognition of the great credit her exemplary service, superior leadership, and dedication to duty has brought to Michigan State University and the United States Army, Lieutenant Colonel Michele Louise Hoxie is inducted into the MSU Army ROTC Hall of Fame, this fifteenth day of December two thousand one, in the one hundred seventeenth year of Military Science at MSU.
